FUNCTIONS OF PARTS OF THEODOLITE
1.
Tribrach
and trivet
Supports the horizontal axis
Accommodates the foot screws
2.
Foot
screws
To level the theodolite
3.
Upper
plate
It contains vernier scale to read
horizontal angle (minutes and seconds)
4.
Lower
plate
Contains graduated plate ( 0 to 360 degrees)
5.
Upper clamping screw
To clamp the upper plate
6.
Lower clamping screw
To clamp the lower plate
7.
Telescope
To see far away objects clearly
8.
Standard or `A ` frame
To support the horizontal axis
9.
Magnifying glasses
To see clearly the graduations on the Main and Vernier scale
FUNDAMENTALS LINES OF THEODOLITE
1.
Vertical axis
2.
Axes of plate levels
3.
Line of collimation (line of
sight)
4.
Horizontal axis
5.
Bubble line of the altitude level
(azimuth) or Telescope level
1.
VERTICAL
AXIS
It is the
axis about which the Telescope can be rotated in a horizontal plane
2.
Axis of plate level
It is the straight line tangential to the
longitudinal curve of plate level tube
at its centre
3.
Line of Collimation
It
is an imaginary line joining the intersection of cross hairs and centre of
object glass and its continuation. (Line of sight)
4.
Horizontal axis
It
is the axis about which the telescope can be rotated in vertical plane.
(trunnion axis or transverse axis)
5.
Bubble line of the altitude level
It is an imaginary line tangential to the
vertical circle bubble at its centre and
its continuation. (Axis of telescope level)
